Building Plans Examiner/Structural

 

Under supervision of the Chief Structural Inspector, performs technical work associated with the reviewing of structural plans to assure compliance with the Florida Building Code, occasionally performing structural field inspections, and a variety of other duties associated with enforcement of the Florida Building Code.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Reviews construction plans and inspects construction projects, ordering changes as necessary, so as to enforce the Florida Building Code and related Town ordinances governing minimum standards and requirements of new construction, alterations, repairs and materials used.
Receives and reviews applications and plans; answers inquiries and furnishes information pertaining to building codes.
Confers with developers and others concerning permit and Code requirements.
Assists Building Official in interpreting provisions of Florida Building Code.
Assists in supervising workload of subordinate building inspectors; performs inspection duties as necessary.
Assists in maintaining records and required reports.
Attends meetings of various governing boards, as necessary.
Minimum Requirements (Must meet by the closing date of the posting unless otherwise stated):
EDUCATION:
REQUIRED:
Graduation from an accredited High School or GED;
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
REQUIRED:
Must meet all the requirements for appointment as a Structural Plans Examiner as specified by the Florida Building Code, Chapter 1, Broward County Amendments, 104.10
Hold a current certification as a General Contractor from the Florida Department of Building and Professional Regulation (DBPR) or Broward County Central Examining Board (CEB),
A valid Class “E” Florida driver’s license.
PREFERRED:
Certification as a Building Plans Examiner from the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (BCAIB) or the ability to obtain the certification within 60 days;
Be able to obtain a Building Plans Examiner certification from the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA) within 60 days.
